In the verse form The Uncle Speaks in the Drawing fashion prosperous writes from the perspective of her uncle who is preaching against a protest for companionable change. The uncle is powerful, flood tide from a wealthy, swiftness seg manpowertation background. He refers to the upper class as our kind. This choice of phrase conveys his elitist attitude. He is sure-footed that the working class protestors pose no threat to him or his kind, dismissing them as follies that subside. To the uncle the mob is powerless, but possibly his ignorance and underestimation of the protestors gives them more power. The uncle is the narrator throughout the entire numbers so vocabulary is very important. The twin themes of power and impotency are two of Adrienne Richs most affiance themes. Her poetry especially focuses on the differences in the way manpower and women use or abuse power (in her opinion), for example in her poem Power. Many of her poems also focus on the impotence of wom en at the time she was writing, such as aunt Jennifers Tigers.
While I do not curb with many of Richs opinions, I think she does an sensitive job of conveying her ideas through her use of symbolism, vocabulary and dramatic imagery. Rich also uses imagery when dealing with the themes of power and impotence in auntie Jennifers Tigers. The massive weight of Uncles wedding band sits heavily upon auntie Jennifers die. This image illustrates how much Aunt Jennifer was weighed down by the interdict influence of her husband and how he crushed her spirit. The image of Aunt Jennifers terrified hands is an extreme one, used to experiment just how much pow! er her husband had over her. She would unendingly fear him, even in death. If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: BestEssayCheap.com
